Letter From Mrs. Eckelberry,
My students inspire me every day with their resilience, creativity, perseverance, and unique ways of learning. As special education students, they work incredibly hard to overcome challenges and celebrate achievements that others may take for granted. I love watching their confidence grow as they develop new skills, advocate for themselves, and experience success in the classroom. My goal is to provide a learning environment where every student feels supported, regulated, and ready to learn. The resources requested through this project will directly support my students' sensory, behavioral, communication, and academic needs. A spinning chair will provide vestibular sensory input that helps students regulate their bodies, improve focus, and return to learning tasks more successfully. A weighted vest will offer calming proprioceptive input, helping students manage anxiety, increase attention, and maintain engagement during instruction. Therapy scented stress balls and therapy putty will provide safe sensory outlets that help students reduce stress, strengthen fine motor skills, and improve self-regulation while participating in classroom activities. Crunchy snacks and protein snacks will help meet sensory and nutritional needs, allowing students to maintain energy and focus throughout the school day. Additionally, visual schedule materials, including folders and Velcro, will help create individualized supports that promote independence, reduce anxiety, improve transitions, and strengthen communication skills. Visual schedules provide clear expectations and structure, enabling students to navigate their day with greater confidence and success. Together, these resources will help create a supportive learning environment where my students can regulate their sensory needs, increase their independence, and access meaningful educational opportunities. By investing in these tools, donors will be helping exceptional students build the skills and confidence they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
