Rooted in Connection:
Why Building Community Remains the Heart of Relevant Church MHKA church is never defined by four walls, a roof, or a Sunday program. At its core, church is people—living life together, sharing burdens, celebrating victories, and walking side by side through every season.Since its beginning, Relevant Church MHK has operated on a clear, unchanging truth: faith thrives best in the context of genuine relationships. Looking back across its journey and looking forward into the future, one commitment stands above all else—building authentic community among our friends and neighbors.
Driven by Heart and Willing HandsWhat makes this community truly distinct is the spirit behind it. Relevant Church MHK operates as an all-volunteer family, bound together by everyday people giving their time, skills, and energy to serve their neighbors. From leadership and outreach to Sunday logistics and music, it is entirely powered by people who simply care about their community. The single exception to this volunteer-driven model is a dedicated investment in the next generation: the Kids Ministry.By ensuring our children’s team has focused, specialized staff leadership, families receive consistent, safe, and engaging care every week. Parents can breathe easy knowing their children are learning and growing in an environment designed specifically for them—allowing the rest of the church family to pour their volunteer energy directly into caring for friends and neighbors across Manhattan.
Beyond Sunday MorningIt is easy in a fast-paced, digital world for people to feel disconnected. Even in a close-knit region like Manhattan and the surrounding Flint Hills, isolation can quietly creep into daily life. Meaningful connections do not happen by accident; they require intention, open doors, and people willing to pull up an extra chair.Because ministry isn't run by a corporate payroll, it naturally feels more personal. It happens across coffee tables, in living rooms, around shared meals, on service days, and wherever neighbors gather to lend a hand. Relevant Church MHK was built on the conviction that church should be honest, accessible, and actively engaged with everyday life.
Friends, Neighbors, and Open DoorsTrue community begins by looking outward. From the start, the focus has never been on building an exclusive circle, but on widening the circle so everyone has a place: Neighbors Serving Neighbors: Practical service carried out by people who live, work, and raise families in the very same neighborhoods they serve. Cultivating Real Friendships: Creating spaces where people can be completely honest about where they are, without pretense or judgment.
A Grounded Foundation for Kids: Dedicated, intentional care and teaching that gives children a joyful, safe place to grow in faith.By tearing down barriers and welcoming people simply as they are, faith becomes something visible—demonstrated through hospitality, grace, and steady support.
Looking Ahead: An Unwavering FoundationTrends come and go, cultures shift, and seasons change, but the need for authentic fellowship never fades. The promise that defines Relevant Church MHK is not complicated, but it is enduring: to be a constant source of encouragement and connection. As the church continues to grow and step into new chapters, its foundational pulse remains steady—serving Manhattan with humility, powered by the generous hands of volunteers, and continuing to build a strong, resilient community among friends and neighbors.
